Epsom Baths

Epsom Salt also known as Magnesium Sulphate is a natural pure mineral. .Salts is just molecules that form because the parts have opposite electrical charges that bind together. Magnesium has a positive charge and Sulfate has a negative charge.
Epsom Salt baths have been used for centuries and is a simple way to draw toxins out of the body to the skin’s surface and reduce swelling and relax muscles. It boosts your body's magnesium and sulphate level which is absorbed into the body through the skin more than from any other method.

Always check with your doctor before using Epsom salt if you are pregnant or have any serious medical conditions.
Best to have the bath a hour so before bedtime for about thirty minutes or so  .

Put into running bath water;

1 cup Epsom salt
1 cup of Sea salt
2 cups Baking soda
Relax in bath for up to 20 minutes or more

When I react my eyes and face swell up. Some times with food  I vomit straight away but most times it is about 4-6 hours afterwards when the food is being digested . Then for the next 24/48 hours I feel like I have a hangover and generally feel unwell. My symptoms are typical of food poisoning!
Medical treatment for Aspirin overdose
When a patient has had an Aspirin overdose we give activate charcoal and a drip with Sodium Bicarbonate .So I thought if it works for Aspirin (salicylic acid) why not try it out for when I have too much Salicylates in my system. So I fast for the day and take only mineral water, a bottle of soda water (Sodium Bicarbonate) and charcoal tablets.
Fasting 1/day
Recently my body is not coping so I have one day a week on just water to help reduce the build up and flush out my system .If I need the energy or I am not well enough I have a banana day. I worked with a Urologist who dieted on just banana's because he said it had all the nourishment needed! It has potassium, magnesium, vitamin b6, vitamin C and only 100 calories for one medium Banana. This regime works for me but we are all different so find out what works best for your body.

Salicylate Intolerance
Salicylic acid is a natural immune hormone and preservative, protecting plants against diseases, insects, fungi, and harmful bacteria and is found in many medications, perfumes and preservatives.
Aspirin is a salicylate drug made from the Willow tree . If you are allergic to Aspirin it does not necessarily mean you become Salicylate Intolerant.
For those with Salicylate Intolerance even a small amount can cause symptoms such as rash, swelling of the face and eyes, nausea, vomiting etc .Once diagnosed a restricted regime is necessary to clear the Salicylates from the body . There are very few fruit and vegetables free from Salicylates for example, bananas, pears, peas and drinks are limited to water, pear juice, decaffeinated coffee. Salicylates range from low to high amounts of Salycates depending on the plant. You can of course have low to moderate amounts but for myself I have never got past low before feeling unwell.
If you have just been diagnosed try to accept it and  play by the rules and you will soon be well again and remember people have much worse conditions to deal with .

September 2005 after buying a very expensive moisturiser I noticed that my face and eyes were very swollen I stopped it and took some antihistamines to no avail. But I also started to to vomit every night for the next three months.
By November I had lost 2 stone and went to a Consultant Allergist. She said although my face and eyes were swollen she had seen worse!!! ( and I paid £150 to hear that) .I was beyond words and did not know where to turn to next as I knew for certain I was very ill and I had told my GP the same!
By December I looked like a rag doll and had dropped from size 14 to 6 in clothes. I could not sleep, my hands shook, my voice quivered and my brain was on hyper drive. Finally, I decided I had to become proactive in finding what was causing my illness as I felt sure if I continued like this I would die( and I was right). So as an experienced registered nurse I decide to use my medical training.

Some years before while on duty I took Aspirin and as I was giving over the report a consultant and Nurses said I looked like I had measles but then realised I was having an allergic reaction .They thanked me afterwards for giving them a first hand experience of an allergic reaction ! .

Remembering this I did my own research on Salicylic acid and found it was also in fruit and vegetables, cosmetics, household cleaners etc.The previous June for the first time in my life I had started to eat Curries  and apple pies with nutmeg twice a week. Curries are equivalent to two Aspirin and nutmeg has very high levels of salicylates which would have being topping me up my system with Salicylates.

I had my answer and went to a Doctor in Harley Street specialising in Salicylates Intolerance . He was so kind and diagnosed Salicylate Intolerance. He gave me a list of food to avoid but it was just those in the high range. I was told to also avoid the preservatives Sodium benzoate and Tartrazine.

Tartrazine is a synthetic lemon yellow azo dye primarily used as a food coloring. It is also known as E number E102, FD&C Yellow 5, Acid Yellow 23, Food Yellow 4, and Trisodium 1.E 102 is found is sweets snacks beverages, processed foods ,cosmetics, moisturisesr, shampoo etc.
Sodium benzoate(benzoic acid)  is a widely used food preservative E number E211. It is most widely used in acidic foods such as vinegar, jams, fruit juice and also used in cosmetics and medication .
I find it easier to generally avoid all E numbers from 100/300 and usually 400 upwards is fine.

The Harley Street Doctor also advised me to get my Thyroid checked which came back as T4 of 70 with the normal being only 20! This was due to an overactive thyroid gland caused by an autoimmune disease ,Graves’s disease. which causes hyperactivity, shaky hands and voice, vomiting, weight loss. Of course I should have been able to diagnose the Hyperthyroidism myself and I would have if it had been someone else!

After being diagnosed by the specialist  I did some more research and discovered that it is best to clear your system out of the poison and take a low saliycalte diet.I also avoid cosmetics , preservatives, sprays household cleaners etc. I was given medication for my thyroid and I started to feel better .

But my eyes were still getting worse and I had double vision .I thought I might have Thyroid eye disease and I went to see a Ophthalmologist . He confirmed this and also that my left eye was protruding .They started me on large doses of Steroids and after three months they said I was getting better but I knew I was deteriorating.I contacted another Harley street specialist who diagnosed Optic Neuropathy which leads to blindness and so I paid  privately for radiotherapy and more steroids. My consultant was wonderful as are all the staff at Moorefield’s Eye Hospital London. Seven years later and several operations my eyes are pretty good …Thank God.

Which came first the Thyroid or the Salicylates intolerance? I think it was the latter and that my system could not cope so the Thyroid went into hyper drive

The moral of the story is...if you really believe you are not well persevere  until you are heard.
